Puttt, putt, puttt, puttt. The dinghy started after numerous attempts. The scorching sun was beaming down on us as we drove off to a beach on the coast of Southern Spain. The fish racing around below us. The water was crystal clear – you could see the ripples from the waves on the sand at the bottom. The wind was calm, almost as if it had taken the day off!
We got to the shore and heaved the dinghy out the water and onto the deserted beach. The sand was golden and soft on your feet and very relaxing. The colossal palm trees loomed over the beach, their chizzled branches stood strong carrying their leaves. The atmosphere of the beach was just so serene and tranquil. As we walked along the beachfront our feet buried in the sand, the heat was oppressive. Meanwhile the searing sun gleamed down on us. The stifling heat left marks on us, marks of sweat running down the sides of our faces. The shells on the beach had light from the gleaming sun flooding down on them which made each individual shell have a radiant glow.
Eventually we made it to the rocky steep path going up the mountain. With bulging rocks hanging over cliff edges where ever you looked. We started climbing, it was a challenge due to the relentless sun and stifling heat. We kept going up the steep mountain, trying to ignore how hot we were. As we climbed up we saw many things like lizards and grasshoppers.
“Phew” I sighed, as we finally stepped onto the top of the robust mountain. I looked around me with relief, I’d made it! Around me I saw the crystal blue water and the distant horizon. To my right was a small beautiful beach, paradise I thought! To my left was the bay in which my boat was anchored, and behind me was the hilly and mountainous coast of Spain. It was one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen!
After what must’ve been 15 minutes we started to head down. This did not take us long, however it was still scorching and we could have drowned in our own sweat. From the top of the mountain we saw a secluded beach, and that was where we were heading next!
We were on the cliffside before the beach when we heard rustling, and out of nowhere there was a 2 foot long lizard standing in our path! It scurried away after a few seconds and hid in the bushes. We climbed down a steep cliff to get to the beach. we got changed into our swimming trunks and jumped in. It was so much fun and so refreshing!
After a few hours we dried up, got dressed and left the beach. On the walk back along the way I found a small cactus trying to grow but had been dislodged in the storm a few days back, so I planted it again. We walked back through the paths surrounded by huge cacti.
It must’ve been the hottest but best hike I have done so far.

That was superb Dylan! Wonderful use of adjectives; I really felt as though I was there, in that searing heat. That swim at the end must have felt sooooooo good! Lucinda x
Wow!!! Beautifully written Dyl! So descriptive and well balanced! x
Great story wish I could have been there. Not enough spelling mistakes for me though 🙂 Rich
