Come sailing and make unforgettable memories of your own adventure!

Do you dream of crossing an ocean, or maybe just experiencing those remote, hard-to-get-to destinations?

If the answer is yes – then come sailing on board Mokara 2 for an adventure of a lifetime!

BIG NEWS: We are in the process of finding Mokara 2.

With Mokara 1 now sold and our family transitioning back into life on dry land, we have decided to make “live aboard sailing” accessible to everyone who would like to experience it or “give it a try!”

Our idea is to use our knowledge and experience to offer other families or individuals (no prior knowledge necessary) the chance to cross an ocean or understand first hand what it’s really like to sail across or live on the ocean.

If you are like us and want to explore beautiful tropical islands, dive colourful reefs to get dinner, socialise with other cruisers, marvel at the night sky, have front row seats to the most amazing sunsets or feel that amazing sense of pride and achievement after crossing an ocean for the first time, then read on!

Mokara 2 will be ready for her first adventure in time for the ARC 2024 Transatlantic. There will be 6 berths available (3 cabins) with Shawn as your skipper along with an experienced First Mate, to show you the ropes and teach you as much, or as little as you would like to know about sailing. You will help with watch keeping, navigation, sail changes and trimming, cooking and general maintenance of the yacht whilst underway.

Leaving in November the ARC rally is a fantastic way to introduce you to the sailing world, with numerous seminars and talks on everything from weather to provisioning. We loved being a part of the ARC 2019 at the beginning of our adventure as it introduced us to so many like minded sailors and families who are now life long friends who we continued sailing the world with. It also made us confident that our boat had all the checks and safety equipment needed for offshore sailing. The pre and post departure parties were great fun and helped bond us to our fellow participants, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie that cruisers are known for.

Arriving in St Lucia in the Caribbean in December you can choose to disembark or continue on board enjoying the various anchorages and islands over the festive Christmas period.

Increase your confidence and get valuable sailing experience
We are not sailing instructors by any means, but between us we have around 35,000 nautical miles under our belts. We will show you how we plan for passages, handle big seas, manage and trim the sails, check the weather, navigate to our next destination, drop anchor and pick up mooring balls.
Socialising and gaining insight from the cruising community
The cruising community is like no other. Never have we been so surrounded by friendly, helpful people that become our lifelong friends. We'll introduce you to other cruisers, allowing you to hear other peoples stories and gain valuable advice from what boat to purchase, to how homeschool is working for various families. We'll show you how we communicate on the VHF, and maybe even share a beach BBQ and sundowners together.
Maintenance and servicing is a huge part of boat life
The saying goes that cruising is a fancy word for boat maintenance in exotic places. Find out how we deal with servicing our engines and generator, use online forums to find solutions to problems, change filters on the watermaker, service winches, maintain our safety equipment, and generally just keep on top of keeping Mokara in tip top shape, to avoid any issues.

FQA’s

Do I need any sailing experience?

Not at all! The idea is that you come and experience what living on a sailing boat is all about. The best part is if you have never sailed before that you will have a whole week or two to try it out, and you will leave wanting more.

Can you teach me to sail?

We are not sailing instructors, so although we can show you how things work and we do things we would still recommend you take a formal sailing course after you have sailed with us to get the formal qualifications. We aim to give you a taste for sailing and cruising life. You can get as involved in the sailing aspect as you are comfortable.

I don't really want to learn to sail, can I still come?

Of course, we tailor make all our trips to our guests requests. So if you just fancy a stay on the boat in an exotic location, then thats no problem at all! We welcome everyone to get as involved as they want to. So if you prefer to sit quietly and read a book whilst we do all the sailing – thats absolutely fine!

What is the youngest age you accept on board?

Well, this all depends on the child. We prefer all children to be confident in the water. That doesn’t mean they need to swim perfectly, but it will make your stay more enjoyable if they are happy to swim and play with our boys. We do ask parents with very young children to always watch them, we will obviously help, but as we all know toddlers can get around quickly. We will also ask that all under 5’s wear a life jacket at all times whilst on board. Its amazing how quickly they can trip and fall.

I have one of your future destinations in mind, can I book already?

If you are considering a destination we have coming up, then please do get in touch and chat to us about it. Even if it’s a year in the future, if we know you’re interested we can do our outmost to make it happen for you!

I want to come for longer than a week, can I?

Yes, you can book for as many days as you want, just contact us to check availability and prices.

I think I may get sea sick, will this be a problem?

Most people get sea sick when they first get on board. Our advise is to plan ahead. If you think you may feel quezzy, take a sea sickness medication 24 hours before joining us. If you forget don’t worry, we have loads. You’ll also be amazed at how fresh air and time helps!
