Join a Mokara Talk
Are you thinking of going cruising & want some valuable insights?
We know how daunting the decision making, planning and preparation stage pre departure can be. You are considering a HUGE lifestyle change, it’s completely natural to feel overwhelmed, and to doubt the big step you are about to take.
We’ve been there, we’ve had people tell us how crazy or brave our idea of leaving “normal life” behind to go out and live on a sailing boat was. Emotions are all over the place, one minute you are craving the freedom and tranquility, and the next you are worrying about loneliness and isolation.
We’ve decided to start Mokara Talks because we have so many people contacting us, asking questions on how we did things and what we would recommend in their situations. We are not claiming that the way we did it was the best or right way, we simply want to share our experience, knowledge & the tips we picked up and learned along the way, to hopefully shed some light on what it’s truly like to be a full time cruiser.
The plan is to get a group of like minded sailors together (in person & online) for 2 days and talk about a large range of topics including:
• Boat Choice
• Boat Power, Sail & Equipment Setups
• Routes & Weather Planning
• Safety Procedures & Equipment
• Training Needed – Medical, Sailing, Emergency & Radios
• Provisioning
• Watch Patterns
• Sailing with Kids & Home Schooling
• Insurance
• Maintenance & Boat Parts in remote places
• Heavy Weather
• Piracy – how to be prepared
Plus many, many more…
Our small intimate talks will take place in a marine environment (boat or clubhouse), with a possibility for attendees to stay the night on board. We hope to answer most of your questions, give advise, address your concerns and generally help you take that first step on board your new, exciting, cruising life!
